Fees and charges

Find out more about fees and charges for your Nationwide credit card: what they are, when they could apply and how some may be avoided..

When a late payment fee may apply

Your monthly statement tells you your payment due date and minimum payment amount. If the minimum payment due isn't with us in time to be processed by the due date, you may receive a late payment fee. It's possible to change your payment date to one that's more convenient. To do this, simply call our Credit Card Services team on 0800 055 66 11, who'll be happy to help.

If you've missed a payment Please don't worry.
Here's what you need to do:

Step One

  • Make a payment as soon as possible. You can do this online, in branch or over the phone.

Step Two

  • Contact us on 0800 055 66 11Opening hours to let us know you have made the payment. We’ll let you know if any charges have been applied to your account.

If a late payment fee has been applied to your account, you do not need to do anything. It will show on your next credit card statement and will be added to your outstanding balance.

What happens if you spend over your credit limit?

We won't charge you for going over your limit, instead we'll add the amount owed to your minimum payment on the next statement we issue. We don't think it's fair to charge you a fee for spending over your credit limit on your card but we do recommend bringing your account within your limit as quickly as possible.

Text or email alerts when you’re near your credit limit

We'll let you know when you're close to your credit limit. You don’t have to do anything to receive these alerts - just make sure your contact details are up to date. Alerts are different to marketing – you’ll get alerts even if you’ve opted out of marketing.

What you should do if you go over:

Get your account back within your limit, either by ensuring that you make the minimum payments on your next statements, or by making an interim payment. Try to keep an eye on your spending so that you don’t go over your limit again

When do cash advance fees apply?

Cash advance fees apply whenever you use your card to obtain cash (for example out of an ATM), foreign currency or travellers’ cheques, or you use your card for gambling. It’s important to note that this can also apply to online gambling and transactions that may not be for the purpose of gambling but are made at an establishment where gambling is carried out, for example: meals purchased in a casino. We charge a fee of 2.5% of the amount withdrawn on each cash advance or £3.00, whichever is greater.

When balance transfer fees may apply

We won’t charge a balance transfer fee for any transfers made within the first 3 months of account opening. For any balance transfer made after this time, we charge 2.4% of the balance to be transferred, or £5.00, whichever is greater.
